The Altieri Crew is a crew within the DiMeo crime family.
James Altieri's Reign[]
It is unknown who formed the crew, and how old it is. The crew were known to be involved in construction, gambling, sports betting and overseeing the New Jersey ports.
In 1999, Corrado "Junior" Soprano was selected as the family's new boss, though he quickly fell out of favor among the captains, Jimmy included. Junior in an attempt to help solidify his power sent his men to disrupt a low-level poker game under the protection of Altieri, reasoning that it had not been paying taxation to the family. The game's overseer Sammy Grigio was beaten despite stating that he was with the Altieri Crew, which was viewed as unjust by Jimmy and the other captains. That same year, Jimmy was arrested in an FBI raid on his club where a cache of illegal firearms was discovered while he was still out on bail. Jimmy was released shortly after his arrest, raising suspicion among the family and began acting strangely, it is suspected that Altieri flipped and started cooperating with the government around this time though it is never proven. Fellow captain Anthony "Tony" Soprano picked up on his behavior and after much deliberation Junior Soprano sanctioned a hit on Jimmy. After being lured to a hotel room by Soprano Crew associate Christopher Moltisanti Jimmy was shot once in the head by soldier Silvio Dante. Jimmy's body was then dumped in the street with a rat left in his mouth.
After Jimmy's murder, Carlo Gervasi was promoted to captain of the Altieri Crew.
Carlo Gervasi's Reign[]
Carlo Gervasi was promoted to captain of the crew after Jimmy Altieri's murder in 1999, and under Gervasi the Altieri Crew was extremely profitable through their control of the New Jersey ports. In 2004 during the Lupertazzi crime family civil war, Anthony "Tony B" Blundetto, the cousin of Tony Soprano, was contacted by the faction led by captains Carmine Lupertazzi, Jr., Rusty Millio, and former consigliere Angelo Garepe to kill Joseph Peparelli, the protege of underboss John "Johnny Sack" Sacrimoni to avenge the death of Lorraine Calluzzo. Though he initially refused, Blundetto later agreed due to his financial issues and performed the hit, killing Peparelli. At Peparelli's funeral, an infuriated Johnny Sack informed Tony Soprano that his cousin was seen in New York City on the night of the murder, however to save his cousin Soprano lied claiming he was with him in upstate New York on the night of the murder, looking for Blundetto's missing daughter. Johnny Sack, still certain of Tony B's involvement, sent his enforcer Phil Leotardo to seize a shipment of Vespa motor scooters from Port Newark that was to be split with the Altieri Crew. Carlo, who was still informed that the Vespas would arrive had his men wait by the port all night. In the same fashion Tony Soprano denied his cousin's involvement in Joseph Peparelli's murder, Johnny Sack denied his involvement in the seizure. Due to the value of the scooters, Altieri and Soprano Crew associates Terry Doria and Benny Fazio were sent to Port Newark to interrogate the security guard present on the night of the shipment's arrival, who confirmed Johnny Sack had taken them. After tensions had calmed, to help ease his cousin's financial problems Tony Soprano gave Tony B control of the Bloomfield Avenue Casino after Carlo's man running the casino was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. After being given control of the operation, Tony B began kicking up to Carlo. As the Lupertazzi civil war progressed, Angelo Garepe, Tony B's cellmate and close friend was murdered by Phil Leotardo and his brother Billy Leotardo. Enraged by the killing, Tony B ambushed the Leotardo brothers, killing Billy and wounding Phil. After the shooting, Tony B fled the area, hiding out in upstate New York, desiring revenge Johnny Sack demanded Tony Soprano give up the location of his cousin to Phil Leotardo though Soprano refused, knowing his cousin would suffer a painful death, likely being tortured. Johnny Sack, in an attempt to pressure Tony into revealing his Tony B's whereabouts began a tirade against the family's earnings, including Carlo's. Under Johnny Sack's orders an entire shipment of imported provolone cheese was seized at the ports by Phil Leotardo and taken to Westchester instead of Rahway where the loads were normally split with the Altieri Crew. As tensions reached a boiling point, in an attempt to end hostilities between the families, and in his own, Tony B was shot and killed by Tony Soprano at his hideout in upstate New York.
In 2006, after Aprile Crew captain Vito Spatafore was outed for being gay, Carlo was given control of Vito’s crew, including his interests in construction to run for the family and though elated with this assignment Gervasi failed to generate much revenue from the racket much to the dismay of the administration. In 2007, Carlo's son Jason Gervasi was arrested on drug charges forcing Carlo to agree to cooperate and testify against Tony Soprano to lessen his son's sentence.
Future[]
After Carlo agreed to cooperate with the FBI, Paulie Gualtieri took control of the Altieri Crew. Gaining control over their businesses in construction, and the Jersey ports.
